The Root Collective partners with small-scale artisan businesses in Guatemala to craft handmade shoes that people actually want to wear. We’re dedicated to promoting economic independence and believe that a hand up and not a hand out is the most effective way to tackle poverty around the world. The fabric on our shoes is handwoven by a 100% women and worker owned cooperatives in the highlands of Guatemala. The shoes are crafted in the slum of La Limonada in Guatemala City by former gang members who have been given a second chance at life through making shoes.
